My chickens have lost feathers due to mite and lice infestations. They do not look terrible, but could use a boost. I saw this product http://www.nutrenaworld.com/products/poultry/naturewise-poultry/feather-fixer/ and noticed it is higher protein to help chickens recover quicker after molt. I have not been able to find it in my area. Would any higher protein food help? Can you feed adults a 24% chick starter or would there be ill results? Thanks so much!

A 24% protein would be fine to feed when birds are in molt.

I feed a 20% game bird feed to most all my birds and when in molt I add a bit of fish pellets to there feed to up the protein some.
The fish pellet I use has both plant and animal proteins in it.

Feathers are made up mostly of the protein β-keratin, lean meats and some fruits and vegetables naturally have β-keratin.
Also try to stay away from ground beef, way too much fat.
