The Pita Pinta Asturiana

Pics
This past season, I hatched around 100 Pita Pinta chicks. The youngest ones that I have, besides the 6 broody hatched ones, are 9 weeks old. I have had several unwanted things crop up. I currently have around 6 POL pullets who have white legs and white beaks instead of yellow and yellow. I have another pullet who has blue eyes but she does have yellow legs & beak plus the most white of any of the pullets. I have also had 5 or 6 cockerels mature and show brass coloring in their hackle feathers. One even had brown patches on his wings. The off color legs and beaks did not show up for several weeks and the brassy color on the cockerels didn't show up until sexual maturity. If any of you who are breeding these wonderful birds have anything abnormal like this show up, please let the rest of us know.

I have not hatched that many. I have had the cockerels with brassiness in the hackles.

It is so great that we are talking colors instead of shape though.

Is the new generation laying as well as the first one?

I think so. I currently have too many running around the backyard and need to downsize so I can kind of keep track on who is laying. I have quite a few Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar mix pullets so I get lots of green and olive eggs. We rearranged pens at the farm last weekend and are processing most of the cockerels on the 15th. Then I will be taking the majority of the pullets to the farm. I am planning on only keeping 2 of this year's cockerels and putting one of them with the hens. Zorro will get a whole new batch of girls to watch over.

Nice pics Ballerina Bird and tommysgirl! I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping up the thread lately. Things have been hectic around here! My very first Pita Pinta broody hatched 3 Pita PInta babies this past week. They are so cute! Another one of my PP pullets was broody but freaked out when I moved her w/eggs to a dog kennel on day 18. The eggs were stone cold and she ran from the kennel when I opened the door. She didn't come back and also didn't go back to the nest box where she had been sitting on the eggs. I guess I broke her of broodiness right when I didn't want to. I candled the eggs and there was no movement but I went ahead and stuck them under another mixed breed broody pullet who was sitting tight with or without an egg. I moved her to the dog kennel and she stayed on the eggs. 2 hatched yesterday and the 3rd is peeping and pipped today. Here are pics of Vivaz and her 3 babies.

These little ones sure are extra cute! I'm going to have to get on your list and hatch some eggs come springtime.

Hi,
Regards from Spain!! My name is Angel and I live in Asturias, the region where the Pita Pinta is original from. I sometimes look at the forum of BC as I enjoy reading it, I was surprised to see a post about the Pita Pinta, I have been breeding them for quite a few years now, it is good to see that there are some good quality animals over there, it is an excellent and beautiful breed. If you want to see some excellent animals, here are some pictures from the last show here in Asturias (unfortunately the pics don't make them justice...):

as you can see in addition to the black spotted Pita Pinta there are other three varieties: blanca (full white), roxa (red spotted), and abedul (means birch and they are black without black spots). All are beautifull, my prefered and the most common variety is the black spotted.
Best regards,
Angel

It is great to have you posting here

Thanks for the pictures, they are very nice!

Beautiful birds, AngelPitaPinta! I have a friend from Asturias, living in London, and he has encouraged me to visit Asturias next summer to see the homeland of my girls! So perhaps I will meet you there!

Welcome to the thread! Thank you so much for posting and sharing the pictures from the show! We have a long way to go with ours here in the US and it was nice to see some show quality birds. My daughter was drooling over the roxa Pitas!
