I received 18 eggs from my in-laws and they work with Tysons Chicken. Currently they get the eggs and put them on a tray and store them into a refrigerator and Tysons comes every two to three days to collect all their eggs and they bring them to the hatchery. So I want to try and hatch these eggs since they are fertile. I bought a Brinsea Mini Advance Hatching Egg Incubator
from amazon and it comes in today. Sunday night I put all my eggs in the refrigerator since thats what they do with their eggs. Can I just take 7 eggs out of the refrigerator and put them in the incubator when I get home to start the 21 day process? Or do I need to let the eggs get room temperture before I start the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is our first time and we are trying to google and youtube to learn. This site is very nice to read too.
 
:welcome I personally would never store eggs in the fridge. But if that's how you have got them I would take them out before you set them in the incubator so they can come up to temp before setting. Good choice of incubator with getting a Brinsea I have a octagon 20 and it's fab. Good luck with your hatch and please feel free to post any more questions you may have.:frow
 
First choice I would not store eggs in the refridgerator if you want to hatch them. They can hatch but I think hatch rates will be better if they are kept at room temperature. As for your eggs, yes, I would take them out and let them sit in room temperature for at least 8 hours then put them in the incubator. :)
 
thanks for the quick reply. I will take them out as soon as I get home and start them tonight. I haev read good reviews about the incubator so I hope we see some chicks in 21 days. We are excited as this is our first time doing this. I want to candle the egg at 7 days to verify its a fertile egg...since this incubator does all the turning can I open it up to cnadle them? Also how often can I candle them..I would love to take pics during the process but Im not sure how often I can do this without harming the baby chicks. I read that at two days prior to hatching I need to lockdown something..what is this all about? Thanks
 
Yes candling is good idea on day 7,day 14 and day 18. Day 7 to check if they are fertile day 14 to make sure they are developing well and to remove any quitters that may have stopped developing. Day 18 is lockdown day when you do one last check to make sure the eggs are still viable for hatching. During lockdown you put your humidity up to 65% stop turning your eggs and don't open your incubator or you will loose humidity. During incubation (day1-18) your humidity should be 45%. If you set eggs on a Friday morning for example you would count day 1 as Saturday morning a full 24 hours after setting. :frow
 
I have never refrigerated hatching eggs. I have heard however, that refrigeration slows the incubation time,
so you might want to leave them in the incubator a few days longer, if they don't all hatch on day 21.
 
The most accurate way is using the wet bulb method. You use 2 thermometers and you put a wick on one
and run the wick into your water reservoir. Then you can use a chart to determine humidity. There are calculations
to use if you are serious but involves knowing how far above sea level you are. here is a link to a chart.
