I'm 51 and the menopause is kicking in with vengeance
Luckily its not hot in the U.k ever! Even our heat waves are probably very unimpressive

Well I've just had my own heat wave
what is the recommended treatment in America?

I don't know any, but you might want to try talking to an herbalist. Last time I went to the herb store I saw something for mentapause, but I just glanced over it trying to find what I needed. It's amazing how helpful herbs can be. ;)

Yes I think there is a herb that is supposed to work
I'm hoping to get air con next year
I'm always scared ill just strip off in public one day because I'm having a hot flush!

Ahhhh hot flashes..... I refuse to take the medications they have out for menopause, some of the "possible" side affects seem worse than the hot flashes.

I am 53 and got them so bad it was like a spigot had been turned on and I was covered in sweat literally dripping off of me! Luckily I no longer work and when an episode hit in daytime I was at home. They started early this summer, right after June began.

Wearing the clothing that makes you cool, performance athletic clothing is a lifesaver. Patagonia, Columbia, Nike, Puma, UnderArmour etc all have the lines of clothing that makes your body sweat keep you cool. There are even some that are fit to wear for office wear, though I don't know the brand name. Hanes has a panty now that helps with it too. There are even PJ's called CoolGirl that help to keep you cool at night. A websearch should come up with the clothing that will keep you cool.

For my menopause I take Black Cohosh gel tablets 3-4 times a day. Has worked to control these hot flashes where I only get a bad case every couple of weeks mostly at night. I drink a cup of lemongrass, shotgun green tea, red clover, chamomile, mint. Before going to bed. Not all mixed together, chamomile as base with one or two of the others mixed in with it. I use loose leaves so I can make my own mix.

Other herbs that help as teas or in capsules.
Red Clover
Don Quai
Chaste Berry
Flax seed oil
Yams
Red raspberry leaves
Spearmint

Our Moms really should have warned us about this stage in the life of a Woman!! Good luck to you all!!

Just bear in mind, herbal remedies are pretty much plant-based hormone replacement therapy, and they have the same risk factors. Educate yourself before taking any "drug," prescription or otherwise.

I think I over educate ! I read so much that I tend to put myself off drugs
I have M.E. And high sensitivity to medications so I always start on very low dosages

I'm not really wanting hrt. I'm lucky that I don't go out much so the flushes don't affect me doing things( because I dont do anything)
I'd just like to be able to sleep

My mum and sister both had hysterectomies at 40 and went straight onto hrt so they haven't experienced a slow menopause
