Confession: I am addicted to chickens!

The coop my husband built is actually more of a run built onto the side of our tool shed. This weekend he will be starting to build the coop into the side of the shed. He will put perches and nesting boxes in the shed and wall off that portion so the birds cant get into the tool area. It still won't be as big as I want it. But we can't change the size due to a tree being next to it. My kids have a two story jungle gym with playhouse on the bottom and a lookout point up top with a slide. I've been dreaming of converting that into a coop when they stop playing in it. My husband thinks it's a crazy idea but I think it would make an amazing two story coop!

Oops! That's probably not going to happen today I guess. I had ducks many, many years ago and found them to be just too destructive. They totally destroyed our pond with their pooping in it. I like chickens, they are quite, keep the weed and bug population under control, and they are pretty easy going.

A two story coop! Sounds cool...but might be dangerous to clean out, lol.

O.M.G I heard the egg song very briefly and a few hours later I went in the coop and in one of the laying boxes there were 2 mini eggs! :celebrate Right beside each other! They are from 2 of my ISA browns! This is the first time I have ever gotten eggs, so 2 in one day! :ya This is awesome! One is perfect, but the other is a little broken because its a soft shell. I'm so happy that they laid in the boxes! I'm excited to collect some more tomorrow :weee BTW I don't know who laid them but I have a few that have been squatting for a while and been very vocal. They are 17 weeks old.

:yesss: :woot :clap

P.S. I'm still waiting on my other ISA browns to lay. There are 18 chickens still to lay.

Congrats! The most beautiful song to hear.

So my chicken addiction continues. Stared with 8. Found Easter Eggers and got 8 of those. 4 were supposed to go to a friend, never happened. I lost 4 to a neighbors dog. This weekend I went grocery shopping at the local amish store and came home with the cutest silkie babies. The next day a friend dropped off a Polish, a pretty Banny rooster and another buff orpington. Lol. So I have 2 in my house and 15 outside. And if I come across a lavender orpington I will have 2 more. Did I mention that I haven't gotten one egg yet? Lol...
