Yesterday I found a sleepy chicken.

I had already been reading through diseases and treatments on the forum, so it seemed like a clear case of cocci. I put corid in their water and waited for the miracle. She was still eating and drinking fine, but not very interested in foraging. This morning she passed up the strawberry tops the other girls were fighting over, and she's currently ruffled up in the run with her beak in the sand.

I didn't separate her because I only have 7, and I'm treating them all. If one has it, then likely more do...? She ate the feed just fine this morning, and drank also. Was it just too late? She was a little lethargic the few days before, but it was super hot and they all did quite a bit of lying around.

These are my first chickens, and I've had them almost 3 weeks.
 
Corid can take three days before you see improvement. I think that this sounds like Coccidiosis, so the Corid should work eventually. To help, you can give one drop of undiluted Corid by eyedropper to the sick bird. This should help jump-start the healing process.

Keep an eye on the other birds. They may not get Coccidiosis too, as its possible that the sick chick had a weakened immune system for some other reason and was more susceptible. But, its still a good idea to make sure that they are acting normal.

What dosage of Corid to water are you using?

We got the powder and I mixed it 3/4 tsp to 1 gallon of water, which were the instructions I found for a "moderate" outbreak; the only smaller dose was "preventative" and I didn't think that would work.

They all (except the oldest two/three) were pretty drowsy when I went out this afternoon. It's much cooler today, but very humid and overcast. They were all burrowed in the sand and snoozing, but the two big girls hopped up when they heard me.

Another BYC member, Casportpony, did some very complicated calculations a while back and discovered that the correct dosage of the Corid powder is actually 1.5 teaspoons per gallon of water. So, you may want to change you dosage to that.

I looked them all over a day ago because they've been scratching their faces. I didn't see anything that looked suspicious. Would mites or lice be very obvious? I looked under their wings and breast feathers.

They can be very hard to see sometimes. When in doubt, I dust. :D

Hi, just keep treating them with CORID 1 Gallon /1.5 tsp and hopefully they will be OK. I had Coccidiosis outbreak two weeks ago and it helped. All of my 7 chickens are healthy and happy running around our backyard.
