Hi I have had my beautiful girls for 2 months now. We have been blessed to have four eggs everyday, two days ago we only had three, yesterday back to four. Today four again, but one with a brown staining and little hard pimples. Should I be worried? What is it?
Most grateful for any advice.

Ok thank you. They are totally free range so I was worried that she had eaten something she should not have. Still new to this, but love them x

Sometimes our chickens lay weird eggs. I suppose a real chicken expert might have a better answer, but from what I've read, this is not uncommon. If they are eating too much calcium, they might get spots like that.

By "totally free range" do you mean they are not fed any formulated chicken feed and they eat only what they can forage for? Or do you mean, "Totally, yeah, our chickens free range"?

It's hard to tell from the picture. Are they small little bumps that don't come off? If so, it is a calcium deposit. We have one hen that lays eggs like this all the time. It's when their body can't process the correct calcium to vitamin ratio so the hen is getting rid of excess calcium by putting it onto the shell. Egg shells are made from calcium, so the bumps are just extra egg shell. It's nothing to worry about. As long as only one bird in your flock is laying eggs like this, there is nothing to worry about. It's her body's system, so it probably has nothing to do with the care you give them.

And if the egg is not how I described, then I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. Hopefully it is what I mentioned above.

Sounds like you're giving them great care. Great job giving mealworms! The hens will love mealworms!

Here's a photo of one of our eggs that looks similar to yours.
