I am so worried about my rhode island red (Ms. Fussy) because she was egg bound and I soak her in warm water 4 times now and all she does is lay in a quiet place by herself. I have tried to feed her and she may or may not take a few bites. I have not seen her drink water either. My hens are free roaming. I did not know that when you insert your finger into her vent, that you have to aim your finger upward to get into the egg path. I have not tried this yet. This has been seven days since this started and she is still not well. I of course, do not want to lose her. Somebody please help me very soon.
 
Could she be broody, and wanting to sit on eggs? They tend to pull out all of their chest and abdominal feathers when going broody, so that is one way to check. I don't think she could be egg bound and survive this long. What do her poops look like? If you take her off outside the coop, what does she do? Has she been wormed lately? Check her all over, but especially around the vent for mites and lice/eggs.
 
Can you feel the egg? If so, can she poop? If there is an egg and she cannot poop, you should take her to a vet ASAP. If she can poop, you could try giving her some calcium and placing in a bathroom that's full of steam. I have found this method much more effective than bathing.

Thank u for replying. I don't think that Reds get broody. I've had a couple of Reds that I've had a egg stuck before and I put them in a warm water and a hour or so, they were up & running again. I've never wormed my girls, I give them pumpkin and wouldn't I c it in their poop? I learned yesterday on this web site that u have to make sure it is the egg hole and not the poop hole. I did her this morning in that manner and yellow thick matter came squirted out. I then put her in a spa of warm water for 22 min. She is now resting in a dark and quiet place and I'll c later how she is doing. She goes outside the coop by herself and goes to a quiet place with lots of shade. She moves one end of the yard to another, but slowly. She gets up on the roost at night and normally off to herself. When I c one of my babies off to herself, then I know something is wrong. My orpingtons get broody and I shut them up in our screen porch for a couple of days. They r so precious.
