Broody BA

Hi everyone,

One of my BAs went broody. I was removing her for a couple of days but she really wants to be a mother. I have separated her from her flock and have sectioned off an area for her. I made a broody box (see picture). I let her stay on there for a day to make sure she was committed before putting a dozen eggs under her. I put 8 Australorp and 4 Lavender Aracuana eggs for her to hatch. She was really pleased when we did this. I was wondering if someone could assist with a few questions I have.

First, the Australorp eggs I have are from Black Australorpes with a Splash rooster. Will this give me Blue Australorpes?

Secondly and more importantly, my hen doesn't seem to be interested in food or water. I think she may have come out but I don't see any poop anywhere. The other day, I put some water in a bowl in her box and she drank it all. I also put some food in the box and she had a little of it.

I was reluctant to keep water in her box in case she spills it and gets water in her nest and spoils her eggs. It was a little damp when I put the water in there the first time.

I haven't seen poop for 2 days.... She has been in this box since last Friday.

Should I be worried or will she be okay to get up and walk out the box for food & water. The food and water is just outside her box.

Any advice would be appreciated.

it may take her a few days to get in the groove, I have a molted java that wont get up but once every couple days. keep the food and water atleast five feet from her, this will encourage her to get up. I have yet tohear of a broody so determined to hatch chicks that she starves herself to death. my Java just went broody again for the third time this year!!! put a dozen eggs under her last night good luck with your BA!!

All good. She came out the other day. And just as your reply came, she was out again. This time I saw some of her nest material on her feathers and feared that she stepped on one of her eggs. My fears came true....
I cleaned up the nest. Cleaned each egg with water as best I could. Some still have nest material and cracked shell on them. She is back on the nest with 11 eggs now....
