I got 3 week old and 5 week old chicks recently. Over the last 2 weeks of watching them grow, and see their feathers come in, I have noticed that the younger one's comb is coming in already, and it's face/comb are already turning red... This means it's a roo doesn't it? The one in question is the lighter grey chick.

I'm sorry, but that does appear to be a cockerel. The larger, redder comb and light coloring are classic rooster signs.

Sorry, but that is a cockerel for sure. Pullets are darker in color and wouldn't have such a large red comb at thisa ge.

I think I only hatch cockerals. T his is my 7 week old Barred Rock. He's going to be a very happy daddy when I finally get him some ladies because he is my first hatched chick. Hence my foundation roo. My next two hatchlings turned out cockerals too. Australorp x RIR. Unsure of their outcome....but Yikes!!! I had to go and name them! Roody and Ricky. Then was just given a Silkie. Yup! 6 month old cockeral! Where's all the girls??
