We have eight hens and only got one egg today. On a good day we get four eggs but we only got one today. For the past couple of days they have been laying 2-3. 1 is unacceptable. Why are they not laying well?

I've been having the same issue all summer. Last year, we got 7-9 eggs a day with 8 hens. This summer we get 1-5 a day, usually just 3. We got 3-5 a day over the winter. The hens are about 20months old and we haven't changed anything in terms of feed, water, freetime out of the run.
Ours aren't heritage birds, just hatchery stock, but I figured we should get a few years of good laying.

We have four that are aged a bit but should still be laying. The rest are only about three years.

I haven't checked the forum in a while, but I popped in today to see if I could read up on the lack of eggs and saw your thread. I'm hoping an expert can chime in.

Me as well. Maybe it is because of this heat. What state are you in? Virginia is sure hot!
