This is Brighton and she is an Ameraucana. For the last two days, my bird has been in her nesting box twice for 3-5 hours at a time and hasn't laid anything. This evening, I came outside to see her and feed her dinner and I noticed she was in a very awkward squatting position like she need to poop or lay an egg. Shes acting strange, standing still with her eyes closed for the most part, not running too much and not sitting flat at all. She is almost two years old and has been a house chicken for the past year or so and is our only bird right now, though she is very happy as she never got along with the other hens when they were here.

Anyways I gave her some food with the kickin chicken in it, and some water with electrolytes. I just gave her a warm bath for 20 or 25 minutes and rubbed her vent gently to hopefully loosen it up, and I just applied some Vaseline to it. The picture below is her last poop she made before she got in the tub and I've never seen it so white before. That was about 40 minutes ago and before that it was a while before she pooped, at least an hour. I just took her put of the bath and I've been gently drying her off and massaging her. She looks very calm as it is way passed her bed time, but is this stance a symptom? I felt around her belly on the sides and below her vent and it did not feel hard anywhere unless I didn't push deep enough. I also felt inside the vent and I didn't feel an egg though again, I may not have went deep enough. I know if she is egg bound she's supposed to be hard there but she has all the other symptoms from what I've read (Nesting with no egg, weepy eyes, acting differently, egg whites in poo). She's also more calm than usual and is letting me petting her and she doesn't even move. Usually she only lets you pet her when she comes to lay with you.

She's an incredible little girl and I want to make sure she's ok and will pull through. Any tips or advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you

I can't help much but my son is named Brighton so here I am. Have you done a search for egg bound symptoms? When was her last egg? Maybe look up prolapse... Does here vent look normal? Sometimes eggs go the wrong way... Can't remember what it's called, drat! Check out the-chicken-chick.com she has good info. Maybe it's a deficiency like calcium? Good luck to you and Brighton. Hope all is well soon.

You can give her tums for calcium. Calcium helps muscle contract to ex spell eggs and if it not an egg I doubt extra calcium would hurt in the sort term. If the egg broke inside her you won't feel a lump you need gloves and you need to feel inside her... Look up cloacal exam. For sure search the site lots of good egg bound advise.

Thanks, I just gave her a tums crushed up and she ate a little more than half of it. A few minutes ago a yellow discharge came out of her. I went in her vent again and about an inch in I felt something that very well could've been an egg but it's hard to tell as I couldn't feel anything else around it.

We got her to sleep and I will try some more ideas in the morning, I'm hoping with more calcium, the egg will come out tomorrow. If not I will have to take her to a vet, hoping for the best right now.

She just woke up and I et her outside. She only ate a little bit of her feed and is walking around the yard. Should I bring her in and keep her a little warmer? Sould I give her another whole Tums for some more calcium??

I read that you could keep her warm in a steamy bathroom vet advice for egg binding. and hydrate hydrate hydrate! Get her to drink if you can. Some people give chickens milk, so calcium and hydration. Try more tums... Take her to the vet if that eggs not out soon. Egg binding can be fatal very fast. Good luck. Oh and find somewhere where casportpony is posting she knows a lot.

Well the good news is she's acting a lot more normal than yesterday, eating a little more, running, and just being herself. I gave her another tums, some feed, put some more vaseline on her vent and she's been in the nesting box twice and still hasn't laid it.
