I did a post a few months ago about some of my other chickens but now my cockerel and one of my pullets have grown up a bit more i was wondering if anyone could tell me if they were show quality. I was going to enter them into a fair so it isn't too serious. I wasn't 100% sure if this was the right forum but anyway,

This is my Wyandotte cockerel bantam ( he's about 6 months old)

And this is my pekin bantam pullet ( she's about 6 months as well)

(Sorry about the mess in the background)
If anyone could tell me if they we're show quality or not that would be great!

I think they would do well shown at a fair, at least judging from these photos. Neither appears to have any obvious disqualifications, and they fit their breed standards pretty well. However, without photos of other body parts (wing, legs/feet, etc.), it is impossible to rule out all DQs. The better bird, in my opinion, is the Buff Cochin. Below are just a few critiques on each.

Silver Laced Wyandotte Bantam: Good head, nice well-spread tail, and pretty good "bowl" shape of the body. His most major fault is that he lacks lacing on his breast. SLWs should have clear lacing on their breasts, but his breast shows mostly black feathers. I might like to shorten his back up a little bit, too, but it is still fine.

Buff Pekin: Nice bird, especially for a Buff. Good head and rounded breast; pretty good tail, as well. If I could change a few things, I would make the tail a little larger, enhance the fluffiness of the feathers, and make her Buff coloring a little richer and more even.

I agree.

I'll add on the Wyandotte that I'd like to see more width to the body and a rounder, deeper, less flat breast. A little shorter legs might be better as well. One of his biggest flaws is definitely the lack of lacing.

The Wyandotte needs a rounder breast, and the bottom of the wings, when folded, should be horizontal. The tail is usually more rounded in shape, but he may just need some time to grow that tail. Overall, in this picture, he is rangy for a Wyandotte - you want to think of them as almost filling a circle. Some of these things might change as he moves and carries himself, and as his tail grows in he may create a better outline. That is, he could look this way now but with a little more tail feathering and less stretch in the neck, he might look quite different.

For a silver laced Wyandotte, he is too dark and would need lacing on the breast. However, I suspect he's actually a silver penciled Wyandotte, and his pattern is fairly correct for that.

From the picture, I might be concerned that he is getting too large for a bantam, but scale is very hard to see in a photo. You can check that yourself; standard weight for a bantam cockerel is 26 ounces and 30 ounces for a cock.

That said, there's nothing wrong with taking him to the fair. Whether you'll do well or not depends upon what else is shown at your fair.

I also prefer the buff cochin, in terms of overall quality.

Have fun at the fair!
