really BIG crop

Slow crop can be due to anything, and if it is a problem lower down in her digestive tract that is slowing the crop it can be recurring and eventually cause death as it can be very hard (and expensive) to diagnose and treat. I took my girl to the vet and she was put on Nystatin as she had a fuingal infection. It worked and then a few weeks later had a huge protruding crop again. I put her on Crop Bound capsules and she did great. (They are available at poultry supplies stores -- the key is to hold back food but make sure there is a lot of water available; works in 24 hours) My girl always had this problem, I'd give her a crop bound tablet and lots of water and she'd be good for another few weeks. Unfortunately, the problem was lower in her tract and she eventualy passed away. The pills helped manage the slow crop, though. Also, I put her in a crop bra and that seemed to help a lot.

If you can afford the vet, take her there so that you know what you are fighting -- she may simply have an easy-to-treat fungal or bacterial infection.

Best of luck to you and your girl -- keep us posted.
