Splayed Legs (First ever incubation) Please advise!

Butt walking is what another member called it! We handled BB a lot and I freaked out too. She's good now walking and standing prone. The best thing to do for her now is take all strapping off, hold her and slowly tip her beak into water bowel so she can drink a bit and try the same with food. Then let her sleep with the others.

I cut the strapping, which was slightly better, but she's still crooked. Your puff ball was at least sitting up straight. Mine is getting a bed sore on her right back/bottom.

Yes mine got one too, put some antibiotic ointment on it. Is the chick walking or still dragging rear? Most likely started in the incubator, that plastic grate is rough. Has she been strapped since hatching? Help her to water and food and let her wobble around and rest a bit. So sorry, hatching is stressful.

Thanks so much for your support.

Sadly, she wasn't hobbling around anywhere. Never did. Just flailing on her right side. Even when I held her up (and I'm a physical therapist, so I know how to help people stand) she just couldn't. It was like torticollis/wry neck as well. I don't think the legs weren't the main problem. In the end, her right wing was held up constantly, like a cramp. She did eat, while lying on her side. She didn't drink, even when I dipped her beak. This afternoon she got so distressed and frantic she was stirring up the other to the point they started really pecking at each other. I had to take her out of the brooder, and I put her down. She wasn't going to get any better.

Oh.....I'm so very sorry for your loss...it's never easy....

Thanks everyone. I'm trying to focus on saving the last two with issues and taking time to enjoy the healthy fuzzy-butts!
