Okra??

Is it OK to feed them raw okra ends since the seeds are so sticky? Will it get stuck on their bills, etc? Probably need a southerner to answer this question. Thanks.
It's Fine to feed em okra, just be limited in how much you give them. Throw some in with them and if they like it, let em have it.

Thanks, btruegs. I'll throw a couple in there and see. I know we are certainly going to enjoy a batch this evening with a bit of bacon and onion fried up with them. I've been cutting and freezing for several hours!

I had visions of them with pieces stuck to their beaks, their wings, their breasts, etc.! They were "chirping" softly as they ate, so I guess they liked the taste. They are 21 weeks now and should be laying their first eggs soon.

My mutts love okra. I use garden shears and cut it up into half inch slices for them. Since I give them the okra that got too big to cook they only get the first half that's still tender.

They also love the reject yellow tomatoes. It's either the chickens or the compost heap and they are so cute running off with their own tomato.

Wish we still had tomatoes, because they would go nuts over the bad ones, but they are all gone. Tonight they had spaghetti and sauce left-overs from supper as a treat. That was fun to watch! Your canned okra will be good this winter. I made up my cornmeal and flour mixture and shook them up and froze them. I still need to put them in freezer bags. I'll add some onion to them and when I fry them up, bacon......YUMMY!
