Dislocation??

My two week old silkie chick is limping and upon examination she has a large lump on the top of her hip under her wing. About four days ago she was peeping and going after that leg and I thought maybe it was just new feathers coming in that we're bugging her, but now it's so bad she won't barely put any pressure on it and now today I discovered her bulging hip! What is going on

. If it is dislocated can the vet put it back?? And could this be Mareks? They are Bantam silkies and My Pet Chicken does not vaccinate bantams against it, so this too worried me for the four others I have with her

If it's dislocated a vet would be your best bet, but chances are she wouldn't be walking on it at all if it were. Possibly a spiderbite or injury other than dislocation.

If she's not walking I'd give her a secure place to rest with food within reach, water too, and see how she goes. A vet is always an option, though plenty will take a few hundred dollars in return for grudgingly admitting they know nothing about treating poultry.

I appreciate your feedback, I did indeed take her to a vet last Friday and unfortunately we had to put her down because it was severely broken. My poor baby. The vet said there was no garuntee she would make it and she was suffering so much I decided it was in hers and my best interest to just let her go. Thank you for your concern, and wish me luck with her remaining sisters. We have put them on vitamin supplements per doctors suspicion of perhaps not enough calcium, and my children will no longer be picking them up... Hard lesson learned. :hit
 
Ah, sorry for your loss. Always an issue with kids and babies, though that's not necessarily how it happened, who knows.

Hopefully all goes well with the rest of them, I certainly wish you all the luck with that.

I had to deal with one kid in my family 'splatting' babies to catch them, just slamming their hands down... They killed a few lizards and injured a few chicks before I could put a stop to that. Kids are generally unable to be careful enough when handling chicks, unfortunately.
