Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, Wyandottes, Jersey Giants, Barred Rocks....all great breeds. Friendly, docile and great on the laying.
When you want to mix new birds into an existing flock, it is best to keep the new birds in a cage or fenced off area but within the flock at all times. Everybody sees, nobody touches. Leave them this way for several weeks. This allows for quarantine against sickness and lets the flocks get to know each other without too much aggression. In a few weeks, you can mix them. Always add more feeding and watering stations for the newbies since the original flock is going to guard these areas and can starve out the newbies. And always intervene if it turns bloody. Sometimes you may need to cage a hen occasionally that will not accept the newbies.
Good luck and keep us posted on the necropsy!
