I think if Meringue was mine and she being a quick learner and a hard worker I would want to put 1 of my wolfy/northern spitz type into her for some really good Iditarod dogs.
I personally think it would be a shame to waste good thinking as hers.
If you don't cut her you have my blessings to even get a Seppalla into her sometime. Them are kinda rangytang little go getters. They have a better coat for cooler weather but not extreme like a Sam or Qimmiq.
Alright!

Gee, the weather here is starting to freak me out. We got snow again today. On Wednesday I was outside working in the garden(prepping) wearing a muscle shirt(wife beater shirt) and I was sweating. Yesterday again I had to put on my longjohns... and a turtleneck sweater.... with windbreaker over..... and earmuffs. Today it was a bit warmer, then we got an inch of snow in less than an hour. Geeeezz.
I like winter and I like spring flowers and birds singing, but I dislike the dirty, messy time of thaw and freeze in between. haha. It's like "I'm not afraid of death. It's the transition that I have my trepidations about."

Kinda what its like here. Haha yesterday was really weird. All four seasons in one day: 2:30 snow/sleet junk, 3:30 rainy and windy, 4:30 sunny but a little wind, 5:30 cloudy with a little wind. We have a saying here: "If you don't like the weather in Montana, wait 10 minutes." Very true.

The trip would be long but rewording! :)
I'm having problems with my back

it hurts so bad!
But Nalas lead dog training is going strong! She's getting so good!
I ordered 2 collars from a sled dog site, amazing collars! Now I'm saving up $50 for 2 harnesses
Hanks working on on-by and let's go, idk how much longer I can hold off breaking in his leash training.. He's so strong and when he pulled on the leash, it really hurts my back

I'm trying but idk if I'm gunna be able to mush like I want too, it won't be bad once there trained

Can sled dogs live inside our house?
They can. I know a few mushers that keep their more "well behaved" sled dogs in the house. But they are also more pet working dogs and not racing. But yes, the only problem is they might not do well in a long race since they would be used to sleeping inside and not in the open.

I can absolutely relate to a sore back from leashing dogs. Especially these pulling dogs. It seems we humans have a tendency to arch our backs and use our back muscles instead of using our abs when we resist someone/thing pulling or pushing at us. I think thats where the pain comes from.
Mind you, with me personally it could be the fact of that added with a cracked vertebra in 85, strained muscles in 07, pulled muscles in 08, torn muscle in 09, all added to 4&5 discs being herniated and deteriorating since I was 17.
2 words, "ab workouts". Not necessarily sit-ups. Apparently not so very good for your back them things....according to some physiotherapists. That though(ab work), my girl, is my saving grace.
Right now, if it weren't for that(ab work), I would be in a wheelchair instead of mushin, cutting&hauling wood, hunting, yardwork, building sheds,......and a whole bunch of other handy-man stuff..
I'm glad you got proper collars and getting proper harnesses. It might be a bit of a nuisance or even more expensive initially to get better quality items but cheaper in the long run.
I don't leash train my pullers. Leash training for a mushing dog is a waste of my time. As long as they can pull a sled and listen to my commands when they are hooked-up, that's good enough for me. A bit different for you where you live though,.... I'm guessing.

Can sled dogs live inside our house?
I know of a man that kept his leader in the tent(or sled camp)at night. The rest of the dogs(7 dog team including leader) slept outside even through blizzards on the lake ice.
None of my dogs stay in the house. Only if the very young get sick.....or the very old.
All said I guess there are different ways for whomever for whatever.

OK, Hanks all night howling isn't passing moms requirements :| so I'm mobbing him to my room in a air kennel
Oh no!
I guess that's a good enough reason to allow hi in the house.
Have you tried a warm blanket and a ticking clock in his doghouse?
Usually works good when you seperate mom from baby, or baby from adopted mom.

I agree with Blue.... A dog can get pretty de-climatized staying in a house. They can actually freeze their pads right off in a very few minutes going out into the winter, even just long enough to have a pee.
One of my females,Wapusk(PolarBear) limped all winter because of frost bite on one hind foot, Actually one toe.
Mind you, I'm guessing where you live it don't get that cold eh. But hey, I got a job for you,...
Try this>>>> Go out side on a cold morning and see how uncomfortable it is ba-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-re feet

I'm teasing.

Update.
Our electricity went off yesterday. I panicked and went to make a fire in the furnace rightaway. Our big house cools off quick and I had seen the weather forecast saying it was to get to -18*C lastnight. It did get cold outside yes, pretty durn nippy. Bit the power was only off for 1&1/2 hrs. so when the fan kicked on with power being restored the big red house got pretty durn hot.LOL.
A beautiful morning here. Yeah right,,,...and how do I show my appreciation for our heavenly father for giving us such a nice day??????
.....still sitting in the house pecking at a key board.
