Buying ducks soon (first time), have some questions

Please review these RULES in particular:

  1. No Flaming (verbally attacking people or groups of people - e.g. a profession, an organization, a company.)
  2. No Trolling (posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant). Trolling is sometimes done involuntarily, so please be considerate when posting. NOTE: Do not reply to or quote people who troll or flame. Doing so may also be considered breaking our rules.
  3. No Teasing, mocking, ridiculing, or otherwise making fun at other member's expense.
  4. No Fighting or excessive arguing. Taking a personal conflict to the forum is unacceptable. "I'm right, you're wrong" threads and posts will be edited or deleted.

Please find ways to give your opinion and the reasoning behind it without attacking others, name calling etc.

Also, when trouble starts, please do not try to "fix" it yourself. This often leads to even more fighting and mud slinging, which can in turn lead to hard feelings which can reverberate across the forum. Simply report the problem post with the red flag in the corner, and let us handle it, without response. Thank ou.

Thanks for the information on the pinioning and clipping. I will certainly stick with clipping over pinioning for sure. I will talk to my local vet down the road and see about how its done safely, or better yet, have the professional do it for me so I don't harm my "kids" on accident. Also, thanks for linking me to the Mallard thread, I will begin looking through it tonight. I appreciate the input!
I hope you come back to let us know which you end up choosing. I'm always curious about people's new ducks and how they decided on the breed(s) they chose and, of course, how things come along afterward in the case of first-time ducks owners. I'm very excited for you, and I know sometimes the waiting is tough. My hubby and I are on pins and needles waiting for the ones we've ordered that will (I hope) be delivered sometime this month. It has me checking my email even more than usual. Every time I hear the ding, I have to check whether it's about the shipping date for our new babies
