Hi, My name is Shannon. I have only 1 chicken. She is a Buff Orpington. She was a rescue. All her other brothers and sisters died. She is a family pet. Her name is Ivy! She gets along with my cats and also my dogs. We love her to death and are thinking of getting more. Thought I would say hi. I love this site. It is my go to site about Ivy! Thanks

Welcome to BYC, Shannon. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry Ivy's brothers and sisters died. It's always sad to lose some of our flock. I've raised Buff Orpingtons for years and they are a wonderful breed; beautiful, hardy, friendly and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of ours), and layers of lots of nice, large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with Ivy.

I love my Buff Orp too.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I am sorry her siblings didn't make it. Buff Orps are a very friendly breed! Very docile and fun to keep. Great layers too. They can make wonderful pets. I am glad you are enjoying her.

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to the flock. Will she stay a house chicken after you get more? If not, you will have to integrate her slowly into the new flock.

Incidentally, there is a very good "People with house chickens," thread -pet chickens are growing by leaps and bounds. I think people do it because there are so many restrictions to having a regular flock.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like Ivy is one lucky chicken, good luck with getting her a new flock started.

We're glad to have you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Good luck with your chicken! You may want to think about getting her some friends. It's best to keep at least two chickens, as they are flock animals. But, with you as part of her "family", she may not need them!
