I have a 5-month old black copper marans hen named Mindy who laid her very first egg yesterday...and her second! Had she not been isolated in a coop and run away from the rest of the flock, I would have just assumed it was the work of two different chickens, but sure enough, I checked for eggs yesterday afternoon and found two dark brown henberries in a nesting box!
My hypothesis is that she was actually supposed to lay her first egg day BEFORE yesterday, but the "urge" never struck to lay, so there the egg sat until egg #2 came along and gave it a little push. Today she laid her 3rd egg, but I don't expect any more "double duty" from her in the future! lol
