Should I feel guilty for having chickens when my neighbors dogs kills my chicken?

I agree with all that RGlennon.

Still, I've fenced my 5 acres in (with woven wire field fence and electric) because I don't want to lose animals - because what someone SHOULD be able to do, and what reality IS are frequently different. What's the phrase? Expect the best, prepare for the worst?

If the neighbor's pets can kill your birds - so can everything else that's out there. If your concern is your birds' safety, put up fences, because whose at fault has no impact on safety.

I really think we share some of the same opinions. Just different reaction. While I focused on the injustice you focused on protecting.

I grew up on a farm, and was raised to believe there is a difference in the occasional loss of a chicken which will happen if you free range and out of control pets. I remember this one issue with a group of strays started to run in a pack. That way they could take down larger prey. The way that was handled was the Pastor announced after Sunday service that the men would be getting together to hunt the pack of now wild dogs. That's how the injured mountain lion was handled too.

Some threads I don't comment on for fear my opinions may upset someone worse. Like in the instance of an animal with severe injuries. Being raised on a farm we were taught to cut your loses and move on. If you look at that same animal as a pet, part of the family, that may be harder to do. Farm life can be hard,
