Female duck "mating" another female??????

It's the ducky dance.
I have found no dominance to it, they just seem to like going through the motions. Mine all take turns on being on top.

totally normal as you probably have heard, my muscovies do it all the time it is completely a dominace thing among females even when males are present. now if you see a male and a male then yeah they're actually mating because males fight, not mount.

These posts are a hoot!

I have 3 ducks, 1 mallard and 2 pekin, all female, all laying eggs. I see this behavior ALL the time, especially when I change the water in the pool. The heads start bobbing and the tail twisting and mounting begins. I too wondered if she was going to kill the one on the bottom. I just thought they were doing "duck things"! Ha!

I am new to BYC and am really enjoying the posts!

I laugh hysterically at my girls when they do this. But I'm always ready to intervene if needed. Sometimes they get a little too rambunctious and someone's head gets submerged for too long.

Here's one of their PG duck game videos. This one is safe for work!

They usually get a lot more rambunctious and a lot more flagrant in their behaviors.

I am glad we are not alone! I know it is no just "dominance", it is definite mating and I have seen them take turns being the dominate duck...also, just picked 2 duck eggs out of the coop, two different sizes, normal and HUGE and they were not there last night! plus they sound the same and even look the same, no difference in tail feathers at all..pekins btw.
