Welcome! most of the Pa folks hang around in the thread I linked in the above post. I am just about an hour north of you. Best advice is to set aside some 'reading and research' time daily and hit all the basics using the above search block... housing, feeding, egg laying issues, broodiness and common illnesses, parasites and first aid treatments.

I'm in west middlesex pa. It's an hour and a half from Pittsburgh towards the north. And right on the border of Ohio. It's actually the same distance to Erie and Cleveland too. We are smack dab in the middle of all three. Kinda a cool place to be for that reason lol

Does anyone in the Pittsburgh area know where i can get chicks to eventually lay eggs for me?

Welcome to BYC! There are numerous sources, Rural King and local breeders in your area. Watch for ads online in the 'livestock' section of Pennswoods or Craigslist. Horstman Poultry sells chicks and is near the Ohio line soutwest of Pittsburgh.

You can go to the Pennsylvania Unite thread and check, most of the Pa people hang out there.

You will want to do some research on breeds to see what will fit your needs, and you will need to do research on how to house and care for them, especially in cold weather and what will you do if any get sick or injured?

Thank you so much, i appreciate it! And yes, definitely alot to think about! We dont just want the eggs but also a pet for us so finding the right breed is important!

Hi Bluey,
I'm here in Washington, PA and came across your thread.
I was wondering about your flock, and if you've had any problems with local ordinances?
