This thread seems to have dropped off but I am in the process of moving to just below Wheeling & was wondering if there is anyone still around the area from here.

Silkies, SQ Indian Runner Ducks, Call Ducks, Assorted bantams, Pekin Ducks, Muscovy Ducks, Toulouse Geese, Coturnix Quail & a small flock of mixed layers. Getting married to my fellow chicken addict fiance (BigPoppy2) on 10-15-13.

Hey there... we aren't in the burgh... but are in Western Pa, closer to Pittsburgh than Harrisburg... about 2 hrs NE of the downtown.

Just wanted to drop in to see if anyone from this thread is still around or watching it...

I'm just below Wheeling on the Ohio side of the river. Mapped it & it says an hour & 15 min from Pittsburgh, PA.

You're pretty handy to the Cabela's store then?   I'll keep that in mind next time we head down that way, we usually do at least one trip a year. My Mom and SF go down there a couple times a year just to get a day out and about...

I just moved here right before Christmas, so no clue where much of anything is yet. I've found the TSC in Moundsville & the Wal-Mart & Aldi's in St. Clairsville. Found the Ohio Valley Mall over a month ago when I made the 1st trip down here to look at the new house.

I understand what you mean... It takes me ages to get used to a new area (did it twice myself) and it seems to take me longer than average because I don't like to shop and I'm not good at jumping into new friendships or however you would phrase it.  I can easily go from work to home for wks and not worry about, or miss, leaving my house for anything else.  The SO picks up milk and other little necessities and I break down and do a grocery run about every 2 or 3 wks.  The only exception to this is camping season when we go to Erie 2 or 3 weekends a month to camp/fish.

The kids & I love fishing & camping. We have gone the last 3 years for several days to a week at a time, but we always go close enough to home to run home to tend the animals. I don't think the campgrounds would like us very well if we brought 100+ birds with us & birds sitters are few & far between.

We are lucky.. we have a couple of good friends able to stop by to check on ours.  I always make sure we keep them at the top of the list for goodies and both enjoy the fresh eggs.

Most of my "chicken friends" live 2 hours or more away. I just have to schedule trips to be back before my feeders & waterers run empty.

Located 1 1/2 hours south of Pittsburgh, 1/2 hour south of Morgantown, WV. Interested in getting a few layers and maybe a batch of meat birds this spring. Not interested in doing my own butchering. Can anyone recommend a local chicken processor?
