Hello all, I'm going to be picking up a breeding pair of gray slate heritage this week. I have a few questions. I'm wanting them to free range with my chickens. Is there any concerns I need to know about. They will be housed in my barn with the free range chickens. This is where their feeders and waterers will be. Are the turkeys similar to chickens in that they will know where "home" is and their food and water. And put themselves up at night? I know they will more than likely roost on top the barn and that's fine as long as they stick around the farm! Thanks for any help

When you raise turkeys with chickens there's a risk of them getting blackhead which can take it's toll with the turkeys but I still see people managing to raise the two together without problems. Mine would never go back in there shelter at night mostly because they couldn't see well in the dark and stayed huddled together in the field.

Thanks, never heard of blackhead, I will check into that. They have over 30 acres to free range so hopefully they will do ok.
