November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

Day one doesn't start until 24 hours after set is what I was taught-you don't count the day you set; so it'd go:
October 16th 4:00 Eggs set
October 17th 4:00-October 18th 4:00 Day One
18th 19th Day Two
19th 20th Three
20th 21st Four

October 31st November 1st Fifteen
Nov 1st 2nd Sixteen
2nd 3rd Seventeen
3rd 4th Eighteen
4th 5th Nineteen
5th 6th Twenty
6th 4:00pm 7th 4:00PM Twenty one

Its just like how old you are. Until you are 1 year old, that is your 1st year. After your 1st Birthday, it is your 2nd year but you stay 1 year old until your 2nd Birthday, so I thinking you are confusing the end of the day with the actual day. Most of your chicks have hatched already because it is Day 21 already for you and Day 21 will complete at 4:00 PM today.

Look at the link I put up for you. I'm not confusing anything, I am going by what I have read and how my sister taught me to calculate.

It's apparently one of those things like humidity where no one agrees on the "right way" lol I'm just happy that this hatch is going so well. that's all I care about. You can call it 20 or 21...they are here!!!

And I am ecstatic!!!!!

Hi whether or not you have any chicks tonight, you should not lift her until Day 22 is complete which will be 6:00 PM tomorrow. If there are chicks they will come out for you to see, but if there are pips, you run the risk of drying up their membranes. I usually put towels soaked with hot water around the nesting area walls on Day 21, to get some extra boost of humidity. But again my broody is inside on Day 21 with dry heating so that is needed. Maybe not needed in your environment.
Thanks for the tips!!

That's a great way to explain it

You've also got to look at it the other way. When a baby is born it isn't a day old until it hits 24 hours after it's born. Then it's still a day old until it hits 48. As with your birthday, once you hit your bday, you don't turn 2 after the day of your birthday. I think that's where the ones who subscribe to the theory you don't count the set day as day one are coming from. It's not a day until it hits 24 hours....then you are still in day one until you hit 48 hours. It makes sense to me...I'm going with it.....lol
