A coop with no windows. Does this matter?

The entire top of my coop props open/can be removed.

Will you remove or prop open the top when it's snowing for hours on end? Won't that fill your coop with snow? I suppose if it's propped, it would keep most of the snow out. I was thinking windows for letting light in and keeping weather out.

I wonder if anyone else knows that this can be addicting.

Huh - maybe that's why I'm up to two coops (one 8x12, one 8x16) with 12x16 attached runs?

I started out with one old coop that was about 7x7.

You answered your own questions. That's great. Perhaps the link I posted (in this thread) about open air coops would also help you understand how this works.

I was being facetious.

I'm also late to this thread, but figured I'd chime in anyway. I currently have a coop with no windows (it used to be an old two seater out house). I have 10 birds living in this windowless coop, and they're doing great. They lay well (considering they're Silkies) even though its semi dark inside. I do keep the door open all day and light enters in through the vents near the roof. We plan to eventually add a window, but it isn't a priority right now. My Silkies do have a very large run though, and they pretty much stay out in it all day. And, I guess if we get significant snow, I'll have to shovel it away from the door so I can continue to keep it open for them, which is no big deal.

I think your chickens will be just fine in their windowless coop. But, as others have stated, they would greatly benefit from a run should they need to be contained.

As for the whole addiction thing, I have 3 coops and 3 brooders. I'm not sure how that exactly happened, but I use them all
