I live on Vancouver Island and recently presented as a delegate to the Council of the Regional District of Nanaimo (different than the city of Nanaimo who already allows chickens on small lots). I had an overwhelmingly positive response to my presentation and we may be seeing some changes in the bylaws to allow backyard chickens in the near future (yay!!!). Until they review the bylaw, they are allowing me to keep my four hens (double yay!). I did A LOT of research and spent a ridiculous amount of time compiling an argument for backyard chickens on small lots. If anyone is interested in my work, I would be happy to share it to further the cause of broadening freedoms in food security and sustainability!

Good for you! Its a shame that people have to fight for the freedom to own a few chickens. I'm lucky enough to live where you can have all kinds of animals roaming around in the backyard. I have 2 dogs, a cat, 2 beehives, and 16 chickens. Next year I'm getting rabbits and a pig. As long as I keep them on my own land and care for them properly nobody will say anything. Everybody should have that right. I hope everything works out in your favor.
