Kleos ducklings

I had pythons for years and don't remember having that kind of trouble with lights, but I also can't remember if we were using reptile lights. I'm thinking not. We use two 125 red infrared heat bulbs. That provides the correct 250 watts, but you still have some heat until you can replace a bulb if one goes out. They seem to last forever, like years unless you have them on 24x7x365, which nobody would unless they were always brooding.

The first one blew in a few hours. My partner works in lighting - energy efficient lighting, so none of their bulbs produce heat - and he said it was definitely blown from the inside. He looked up the make and model and found lots of people had trouble with this kind of bulb. Apparently its the closest thing to sunlight. They really did perk up straight away under it, the box says 'stimulates natural activity' That's certainly true! My old one was just a bright halogen and it did last years. Im treating the new one like a baby, handling it gently and if I have to turn it off I put them on a hot water bottle for 10mins while it cools down before I switch it back on.

Everythings going great so long as my 3rd bulb keeps going. I'll have to take some more pics cos they are bigger already - well, little Stormy doesn't look any bigger, she's micro like her mum! And Que is already getting more adult feathers on wing ends and tail.

My dear Wist has been hanging around the mini pen peering inside. He knows it means babies, he loves babies. He once played nanny to a litter of kittens and was so proud of his children, taking them for walks all day! Im so happy that this time one actually is his. I keep sitting and watching them, just cant believe they are real!
