Ran across a guy selling wild turkey hatchlings. He said the looked and tasted like the turkeys that are hunted during season. What's your thoughts on this? I actually though about getting a couple and trying them out. He wants $10 a piece for them.

We've just begun talking about raising turkeys for 2015 (we only have chickens now) so I have been looking at what a couple of the hatcheries have and how much they are.

Both Meyer and Ideal sell several breeds of turkeys including "Eastern Wild" and "Rio Grande" breeds. So I suppose the person you talked to could have got some from a hatchery and raised them.

Here are the links if you want to read about them:

Me, personally, I shy away from anything (turkeys, watches, handbags, tvs) that sound like they fell off the back of a truck, if you know what I'm saying.

But especially with birds - better you know the true provenance not just what Vinny told you if you want to build a flock.

But again, just my opinion and it depends on what you want to do with them.

i dunno about that...
