Can drakes make good pets?

We rescued 2 ducks who were about 3 days old back in March, so they are about 7 months old now. They have turned out to be a Blue Swedish and a Magpie, both drakes. Since they are our only pets (and our first-ever ducks) we spend a lot of time with them and take them on weekend excursions to mountain streams and lakes where they follow us in our kayaks.

When they are out of their pen they stick very close to us and follow us wherever we go. But lately the Blue Swedish is getting aggressive. If you walk away from him, he grabs your pant leg - hard. If we reach for anything on the ground anywhere near him, he'll bite - hard. We've tried "punishing" him by either holding him down, lifting him high into the air, or grabbing his bill and holding it shut, anything that makes us seem dominant. But he treats this like it's a game and comes back for more!

Is there anything I can do, or do I need to just be content that this is typical drake behavior? We can't have females where we live.

My neighbor has a drake that lives with her rabbits, and he's very friendly.

(I train horses) Never punish an animal like that. They're just learning to be terrified of you by being lifted high in the air, being forced to be held down, and holding his bill down, and he will never want to be your good pet.

Reward all good behavior with something he likes (if you feed him treats and food, put it on the ground so he doesn't know it was you. If you feed them by hand, he'll learn that you are what supplies treats, and he won't treat you with any type of respect. He'll just attack you for treats.)

I would completely ignore all his bad behavior. If he likes attention, just go inside your house and leave him alone. Teach him that when he is being naughty he won't get what he wants so he might as well be good.

I hope I helped and please ask me if you have any more questions!

I have three males, khaki Campbell, mucovey and a khaki Campbell mucovey mix. ( separated from my two disabled girls and my W.H hen) that don't bother each other some times sexual frustration gets the best of them and try to "get" each other but other than that they are fine. Bert is one of the best Drake I've had and Will follow people

We got three ducks and two ended up being boys. Are ancona boy is a big sissy (haha). Super submissive and not dominant at all. Are muscovy drake was great until he hit about 3 1/2 months, then he started attacking my four year old son. He was fine with my husband and I and if he started acting feisty, I flipped him over on his back (Iike with a dog) and he knocked it off. He started getting more and more aggressive towards are ancona duck and drake, the last straw was him jumping at my son, talons first, and holding on. Before he just grabbed and shook him with his beak. The next day my husband took care of him and was dinner a few nights later. Are two Anconas are much happier now and are Ancona drake he still very mellow. I think it just depends on the drake. I'm sure there's some stuff you can do, but I think some are just more aggressive.

I agree completely it depends on the duck. I have 3 drakes, one very mild mannered, hand raised, lovely pet. One in between, and one absolute sex fiend. My female Muscovy is actually the worst for biting and clawing, but she only does it if I don't give her enough cuddles.

Well I have a drake its a pekin duck I had him when he was 3 weeks old I hand raised him he never bit me or anything he always plays with me but when he was 4 weeks old one day he bit me but I didn't did anything and just keep playing with him so now he knows that I'm his mother or whatever he thinks that I am and now he is 5 months old and his playing with me he always stands up when I get near him then he plays
