Week old Cornish X chicks - newbie need help

No, they're usually big enough by 4 or 5 that they don't need heat, depending on your ambient temperature. You'll be able to tell when they don't hang out near the light during the day, they're over it.

They should be 5+ lbs. by 50 days.
You'll also need a lot of help processing.
When I do a big bunch of meaties, I process quite a few at 3.5 weeks as Cornish game hens and the rest at 6-7 weeks. Doing it that way, thins the herd so it relieves space pressure and I don't have so many to do at once.

x2. I butcher the cockrels one or two weeks before the pullets, as the boys grow faster so are ready sooner. You should have way more space per bird SOON, lots of feed, and bedding/ manure management plans. If you figure 2.5 lbs. of feed per pound of gain (maybe more or less), that's 150 x 6 lbs. body wt., x 2.5 lbs. feed = 2250 lbs. of grower feed!!! And close to that in manure by weight. Mary
