My silkie is dying! Whats wrong with her? Please reply!!!

Marek's is extremely contagious , that's the problem. It's spread by chicken dust and dander. You can't clean it away and any exposed chicken, sick or not can spread it.

Ok, should I talk to other people showing and see if I can get my chicken put in a cage by other immune chickens. Or should I not show at all? I have never shown a chicken before, so I don't know anything about it. I'm sorry if I sound ignorant and stupid.

When you go to a show, you don't know who has what, and most people don't. If your chickens have Marek's, you may want to stay away from shows and not give it to others. But..............

There is alot of controversy with shows and Marek's. Does one show or not. How about those who bring Marek's home with a show bird and spread it to the others. I think the best thing to do is vaccinate day old chicks. Protect your own. It's near impossible to do any more than that because eventually all showbirds may be exposed to Marek's at some time in their life. There's really no answer for the thousands that show their birds. So vaccinate your own. People will always show birds

Ok, that's what I thought. I've heard that even vaccinated chickens can get Mareks. In your experience does this happen? When I get new birds I don't want any to die.

I don't want them to die either. If they get vaccinated day 1 of life and are quarantined for at least 3 weeks, they can all be exposed and get the virus. But the vaccine won't let the symptoms kill them. The vaccine protects them against the tumors that invade their body and nerves.

That is good to know. Now I don't have to worry. You are very helpful.
