Welcome to BYC! I wouldn't put an air freshener in the coop, instead you might want to try putting Sweet PDZ under the roosts, it's a horse stall odor absorber and it won't hurt the chickens. You can get it at Tractor Supply or any other feed store. Best of luck to you.
 
how do they work?
Do they have something like activated charcoal to absorb odors or mask the odor by emitting a scent?
And why do you need it? Is the ammonia smell too strong?

The better solution is to identify what is causing the odor issue and addressing that. A well kept coop will have little to no offensive odor to it. How large is your coop, how many birds are in it, what are your housekeeping routines for the coop, what is the odor you are trying to fix - is it an ammonia odor, a musty odor, etc.?

I completely agree with Ol Grey Mare. Find what it is that is causing the smell and fix it.

Ol Grey Mare X2 A clean coop won't stink. Keep it clean and dry. Try some herbs too. Make sure you have 1 square foot of vent space per bird in your eaves. Stinky air will cause respiratory ailments.

It is just a small one I have seen no spray just in a box
The coop is cleaned and disinfected weekly but I was just wondering if it would help the smell it is not a very strong smell but I would pefer a clean smell other than a dirt cent

When you say "cleaned and disinfected" - what are you doing?
 
Depending on the size of area and the number of birds, you may need to step up the frequency of your basic cleanings - the more birds in a given area, the more waste there is - so a large area with a few birds will take longer to smell than a smaller area with more birds. We do a quick 5 minute chore job on our coop almost daily (sometimes every other) - all it entails is removing the waste from the poop boards which is as simple as cleaning a cat litter box.
However, if the smell you are not liking is just a 'dirt' smell I don't know how to help you with that as there is going to be a "natural" smell to a coop - that is just the nature of having chickens as they don't naturally smell like potpourri.
 
Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Some people like to put dried herbs in the coop for a different smell. As other people mentioned, Sweet PDZ or Stall Dry. If you have a wood coop especially, double check that it doesn't need resealed/ painted, or staying wet / musty.
