Call ducks came today!

Ah. I didn't know the size of the crested ones is any different from the others. I did have one egg that I thought even at first glace was noticably larger than the others. I turned out when I weighed them that I was right. The egg weights ranged from 1.2 oz to 2 oz, with that one being the only 2 oz one. The next highest weight was 1.6 oz, which is what exactly half the eggs weighed. The 2 oz one was one of only 5 that seemed to have a stable air cell.

I didn't put mine in the incubator in an egg carton, but I set them in vertically instead of laying them down and didn't enable the automatic turner for now. I'm going to candle them again on Sunday night, which will be the five day mark. I'm really hoping to see some improvement then.

Are any of your eggs fertile? I have 6 that are progressing, I'm on day 10 today. I have about 4 early quitters so I'm hoping these 6 will continue to grow.

We candled them Sunday night to see how things were looking. Some of the air cells look better, some don't. There was definite development in two and a pretty good possibility in a third. Another had obviously been fertile but had a blood ring on Sunday night, so that was the only one I disposed of. The one that I mentioned before that was noticably larger than the others was one of the ones with definite development. That one was actually far more developed than I would expect of a fertile 5-day egg, but I'm also not yet accustomed to typical development of Call embryos. I assume it happens a bit quicker than the duck eggs I'm familiar with that have a longer incubation period?

We might candle them again tomorrow night to see if there's any early movement or any signs of development in the others, but I probably won't toss any until this coming weekend unless others show blood rings.

Good luck!!!

5 of my call duck eggs are progressing very nicely today is day 14

Congratulations! Looks like you're going to do far better than I am!

Seeing as I had 16 eggs to start; about 4-5 were yolkers, another 5 were quitters withing the first 4-5 days including my bigger one :( now I'm only left with 5 healthy looking ones, I sure hope I can get these little guys to hatch in around 11-12 days. Crossing my fingers for both of us through our scary nail biting journey!!!

It's now day 20 and all 5 of my remaining eggs are progressing nicely. It's getting closer to hatch day!!!

Okay guys, day 23, lockdown. Wish me luck!!! I'm so nervous and excited I just want to stare at my incubator all day until day 25-26!!!!

Okay we have one that hatched. Sad news though he has a protruding navel and is very weak. He hatched last night around 8 and I thought for sure he wasn't going to make it through the night but I woke up this morning and he was alive with his head up attempting to move around. I have been putting antibacterial ointment on his navel in efforts to keep it as clean as possible. He still isn't close to being dried off and fluffed up. Should I leave him in the incubator until he is all the way dried off or should I set him on my chest with a heating pad, he seems lonely. Should I offer him any water with electrolyte booster in it????
