My hen isn't acting like a hen.

My ladies are about a year and a half old, and they've been wonderful, for the most part, but very recently, my Ameraucana hen has been mounting my other ladies! I'm thinking of maybe just getting a rooster, or two, but is there anything else I could do? Feedback is appreciated.
 
Yes, I was thinking of getting a Brahma roo. I want one who is bigger, but not too aggressive, so he he can keep the girls in order. Any recommendations?

There is no need to add a rooster if this is your only concern.
You mention "a rooster or two" - how many hens do you have and how much space are you able to afford your birds in their coop, run and free range areas? This will play into the number of roos IF you do decide to add to your flock.
 
Well I have 2 polish and a batam rooster in my flock, its comical to watch the little banty mate with my big orpintons but they all get along
I would recommend that if you get 2 try and get brothers or growers that have been brought up together
 
I think we may have found a Turken Roo that's supposed to be very docile. I don't know if we're getting it for sure, but maybe. I really want a Buff Orpington rooster, but still figuring everything out.

I'm assuming you don't mean 20 square feet and if you do, then I'm assuming that is the hen house and there is a significantly bigger run attached? If not, the reason your hen is mounting another hen may well be because they don't have enough room. I appreciate that you allow them to free range regularly but when they are confined to the smaller space even for a few hours could be enough to trigger the behaviour.
Apologies if I picked that up wrong. I don't mean to be critical, just concerned that adding another bird to the space may make things worse rather than better. The cockerel may get attacked by the hens or the hens may have no place to get away from the cockerel's attentions.
Sometimes people start out with young birds and there is plenty of room when they are small and because they are used to seeing them in that space and they grow slowly, they don't realise that things are getting cramped.

I have known a few buff roosters which have all been lovely birds
I have about 15 hens and 3 roosters of both lfs and bantys which all get along I have never witnessed any bad behaviours between them
my coop is 6ft by 12ft and my pen is about double that give or take
my birds free range all the time
but I think alots down to their own individual personalities as they can have their problems as well you know lol
I would definitely go for the rooster ijustlove them I've added a few pics of my setup to help you decide xx

you will know your chickens better than anyone if you've got an problem with over crowding and space you would probably see issues between a lot of your birds like feather pecking and stress related issues but if its just one hen shes probably dominant so a rooster would help good luck xx
