First time hatching eggs

1 more hatched, but mum hen got too distracted by her chicks and hopped off her nest some time last night. Checked them this morning and found her sitting in a new little nest with her chicks, leaving the last egg in the old one. It is cold, so probably dead.

But 6/7 is much better than I was expecting from her, so i'm happy

She did good! Congrats on your new little chicky family!

My Barnevelders are now 1.5 weeks old and my other lot are 1 week old. Growing like weeds of course

Soon the gender guessing game will start!

The little white chicks who had black dots on the top of their heads have quite a lot of black pigment coming through on their wing feathers. I think they look awesome. Not really sure where that would have come from though... I guess my rooster is mostly white with a bit of black... but I just didn't think it would come through on the wings. Can't wait to see what they look like with all their feathers. And hopefully at least 1 of the black and white ones will be female

I haven't got any really good shots of the Barnevelders at the moment because of two reasons...

1. Every time i'm out taking photos, they seem to be inside where its dark..

2. The mum is not particularly fond of people, so every time she see's a person, she gets very defensive and nervous... so her chicks are quite flighty... oh well... Once they become more independent and I introduce them to the world of kitchen scraps, I'm sure their opinions of me will change
