I "may" have had an egg from one of my Buff Orpingtons. I found an egg on the floor of my coop in front of the laying boxes that didn't look like my RIR eggs, but it was cracked! Like it had fallen out of a box perhaps? That was yesterday.

Today one of my BO's and one of my RIR's were sitting happily in the laying boxes. I was so excited to get an egg FINALLY from a BO! I went back and checked a couple of hours later and both hens were gone and no eggs!!! Why do they tease me like that!

I did get a good surprise today though, one of my Silkies decided to lay an egg today. She hadn't laid in a few weeks.

Yep, they can be frustrating! I take it you have tried all the various methods to get them to start laying?

1. Bribery. "I will give you all the scratch you want, if you just give me an egg!"

2. Threats. "I swear, if you don't give me an egg by tomorrow, you will be getting to know the inside of my soup-pot by the end of the week!"

3. Begging. "Please? Please may I have an egg?"

4. Acceptance. "Any time you're ready. No pressure!"

5. Casual Commentary. "I love eggs so much! How excited I would be if I came back tomorrow and there was an egg in your nest....."

6. Landlord Negotiations. "Rent day! Pay up!"

I've tried them all, and I can tell you the only one that really works is Number 4. They will lay when they are ready, and not a day sooner!

Best wishes

Yay! I got an egg from one of my BO's today! Now waiting "patiently" for the other 3 to start laying!
