I have a "nursery" where I keep my baby/young birds. It's a 10'x20' covered run so I guess it's a bit more than a nursery, lol. Anyhow I have 6 muscovies babies, 8 assorted pullets, a male peachick, 1 baby silkie roo, 1 silkie pullet, 1 full grown silkie roo, and 2 full grown silkies hens in there. All of the youngins are between 2 and 6 months old. The peachick being the oldest. They all love each other to pieces and start crying like babies if any their "siblings" are taken out. Today I introduced our four Guinnea keets (just shy of a month old) because they had outgrown the brooder box. They get along splendid with everyone else, my silkie pullet has even adopted them as her 'new' babies (she is a month older than the other pullets and when we first got them we put them in the brooder with her she started playing the protective momma lol). But now my peachick is displaying (first time ever. He's a scared chick who runs in terror from my teeny tiny four month old silkie roo every time he peeps)Is it just coincidence, you think? Or does he think the keets are peahens? :hmm He is still his scared chick self, just he is displaying to the keets and pullets when the baby silkie roo is on the other side of the pen.

Not sure if he considers them as peahens, but a peacock will display for anything it seems. I have watched an adult peacock display for a cardinal, a squirrel, a fly, and I have a peacock that displays for me and when I shake my foot he shakes his train feathers. Especially as a young peacock he has to practice displaying so he might just be picking the keets as his audiance.

x2, yes he's probably just practicing being a boy

I've heard there are (extremely rarely as far as I know) reports of guinea/peafowl cross (hybrid) chicks hatching, but I've never seen one. Supposedly don't live too long, no idea what that would look like... Maybe next year you can get him a peahen chick,

They will fan when they see the tinest critter like a frog, turtle or real big bug .

New to the brooder

Yes I don't think guinea x peafowl hybrids live that long...Maybe at max 3 years...
Feathersite.com has photos of such a cross:

Peahen on the left, hybrid on the right.

Some better pictures of such a cross are on Futre Visions Farm's page here:

I think this is pretty rare though for a guinea and a peafowl to mate, but it happens!

Thanks, @MinxFox , I always wondered what they looked like... talk about identity confusion
