hi guys,
just couldn't resist not making an account!!!.
I do have one question for my 2 isa browns nugget and keno.
I have noticed that keno is larger than nugget by a fair amount.
they are 8.5weeks old and have been wormed and vaccinated.
they have a controlled diet of which I over watch them doing.
they are definitely females as at 8.5 weeks I can almost certainly tell.

any help would help ;)

There certainly can be size differences between them - one could be a slower grower etc. They may not even start laying at the same time. Just the same if you could post pictures - it would help us a lot.

I live in Australia and have 2 hens
Rhode Island Red x Red New Hampshire
they are both on veterinary medication at the moment for coccidotis.vet gave meds for worming and anti biotic.They have just had an outbreak of mites too which they have been treated for

Penny has been very ill looks like she is starting feel better and pulling through
our daughters chook

Ruby is fine but has been treated also.we are new chook owners since June this year
Chook is Austraian word for chicken which we use

So glad you joined.

As long as they are healthy then size difference, I think, is due primarily to genetics. My smallest BR and BO are also the more active and agile of the flock.

Nuggets, lots of times chickens do grow at different rates. However make sure the smaller bird is getting her fair share. Not eating enough or being bullied away from the food will cause bird to grow slower.

Even birds within a breed can be different sizes. I wouldn't worry, as long as they both act normal.

It is normal for chickens to vary in size, even within the same breed. As long as the size difference doesn't become huge, and they continue to act fine, I think your chicks will be okay.
