A "I have mites" thread.....Again...

I know people say this a lot but "I have mites!!!!"

My questions:

1. How can I get rid of them a naturally. (I've tried D.E and it was a no-go)

2. How could they get mites in the first place

3. How can I prevent mites in the future?

Random Info:
I have 7 black Australorps hens and no rooster. I use plastic nesting boxes and straw bedding in coop and nesting boxes. My girls are losing feathers and not laying. I don't have any perches because my chickens don't roost at night. If you could give me advice to get them to roost that would be awesome.

how well does that work? And i have heard to use garlic, does that work?

For prevention (and even eradication albiet slow) I'm a firm believer in No Pest Strips hung in the coop... I have been using these things for bug prevention for over 20 years now, from reptiles to dogs to birds...

Walmart, as well as most hardware stores and feed stores carry them and they are cheap...

The mites...they're back!!!!

Did you get rid of them the first time? If so, did you treat your coop at the same time? Also wild birds like sparrows can be infested and if they can get into your coop or run they can pass them to the chickens. We use lots of sevin dust here.
