I have been thinking about getting chickens for a long time and we're finally living somewhere that I'm allowed to have them. I was thinking that I'd wait until next spring but a friend of mine asked me today if I wanted some chickens that one of her friends currently has. She can no longer keep them for some reason. I'm waiting to find out a little bit more about them, but I'm seriously thinking about it. Three chickens; 2 different breeds, and they're approx. 3 years old. I need to do more research on the breeds and looking after them, which is why I signed up on this site. I'm looking forward to checking out all the interesting stuff. Hoping to get the chickens here very soon.

At 3 yrs. old their best laying days may be behind them. It's wise to inquire why they want to rehome them. Welcome to Backyard Chickens.

I agree. But, your post sounds like you plan to investigate before accepting them. If you do get them, make sure you also look at issue of integrating new ones that you will probably want next spring. A lot of folks elect to start with pullets, but raising my 6 girls from 3 days old is and experience that I would not have missed.

Good luck with your decisions. So glad you joined us.
