Went out to clean my quarantine hen house where my 28 hens are that I picked up free off Craigslist last week lady said they were under a year old. They were very under weight so they are getting free choice (which is how i feed anyway) but one hen has started walking almost spastic like, tail is drooped down but when she walks she really seems to use it for balance. I have a video but it won't let me load it. However I would love to add one if anyone knows how to do it!

Hi. I have no idea whats wrong with your chicken, I'm a new chicken momma. As far as the video goes..You have to upload it on to You Tube and then copy that link and paste into the video link icon. Just had to do that myself yesterday. Good luck with your chickens!!!

I would treat them with vitamins and electrolytes in their water. Coccidiosis can be a problem in older chickens when they move to new ground, since there are more than 9 different strains of cocci. Corid (amprollium) is the treatment for that. The one hen may have something neurological going on, but dehydration, coccidiosis, or even something like Mareks disease could possibly be a cause. She needs to be watched closely for symptoms of paralysis, or trying to balance with wings due to a weak leg. With new chickens, always check hem for lice and mites, and think about worming them. Valbazen is one of the best wormers.

I decided to cull her and take her in for necropsy today. They found 2 white spots on her liver and a possible enlargement of a nerve. Next step is to send it to a histopathologist.
