I was just candling before lockdown and found 1 had pipped?! I have put some 'hospital tape' on the hole and upped the humidity. Can hear chirping already!
And it's a external pip! I noticed it had internally pipped when I candled a few hrs ago b4 lock down before I noticed the hole. Should I take the tape off??????
Hi there, what breed of chicken are they? I've heard that some bantams hatch earlier than other breed of chick. Also, what temperature have you had the thermometer set at? I know very little about hatching chicks (waiting for my first lot to hatch), I'm sure someone with more knowledge will come along soon!
I guess, since they are pipping, I would let nature take its course and see what happens. Good luck xx
They are bantam polish. I have completely freaked when I took turner off and did the 'last candling' to find a shell cracked with a hole' hence y I've freaked out and put some tape on it. Temp has been constant 37.5 - 37.8 celcius and has been a dry hatch (humidty has been 40-50%) but have it now at 70%.
I just don't know if I should remove the tape?!?
Take the tape off! We've had some hatch at day 18 especially bantams! Let it come out when it wants, it could die if you tape it up and block it's breathing hole.
I did leave a crack open. But have removed the tape n exposed membrane when I did. Wet paper towel over that now. Hole open. Luckily I'm going out shortly for the night!
