Hello all. Glad to be here. I've already gleaned lots of good info. I live in central Florida. I have 5 production reds, a Miscovy duck, a barred rock & a golden sex link. The Reds have been producing for about 2 months. The others are only a few weeks old

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join us. You've got a really good flock of layers there. Golden Sex Link is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are produced by crossing a red gene rooster with a silver gene hen. The resulting offspring can be sexed by color at hatching (male chicks are whitish, female chicks are reddish), and they will outlay either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. Some hatcheries such as Ideal Poultry and Cackle Hatchery market their Red Sex Links under more than one label, depending on which silver gene hen is used in the cross, but no matter what label they are marketed under, all Red Sex Links are egg laying machines.
