I have a white crested drake 11weeks old and a ancona duck 12 weeks old. Every time the duck goes in her pool the drake goes in after her and mates with her it looks like hes going to drown her so it makes me nurvous is this normal at this age or should i interfere. What do i do

At 12 weeks i am thinking it's play practice, I've never had any of mine actually "mate" at that age. But yes it does look like the drakes will drown the ducks when they are mating but i have had ducks going on 11 yrs now and have never had one drown one yet. Now more than one drake trying to mate a duck can drown one. When you see this taking place look at the drake you can't miss his male part it's long and shaped like a cork screw. Have you seen it? then you'll know he is for sure mating with her.

I have 2 Pekin Ducks. My drake drowns my female when they mate. It's too the point where she won't get in the pond at all. Used to be as soon as they got in he would get on top of her and drown her, but now she won't go in at all. If she gets in when he's not in he will go right in after her.

I should re-word that....he holds her neck and face under water and it looks like he's trying to drown her. But she won't go in the pond at all

Oh yes mating is rough business I have often wondered how the duck survives thank goodness it's never been more than one to one in the pool.

I've seen the white cork screw parts and he then falls off her
Wow so young too, well if she gets in with him not much you can do my girls actually ask for mating at beginning of mating season, I'm sure they are probably relieved when its finally over in the fall though. Now they all just lay around resting lol

No I actually just found out I have three drakes and then my one duck the other two have shown no signs of interest to mate

I hatched two a male and female and bought two and they r both males and there all 11~12 weeks old and just starting to molt
