Oh wow, no photos of his. That does look larger though. It does look to be in the sacral area..quite low. Hmm, guessing if it hadn't been so large, she would have had a lot less problems. Goodness that's large.

I thought it was just me thinking that it seemed huge. There was no sac around it, it was just blown wide open. It’s amazing that they got the great results they did when they closed it. They put her in a giant plastic bag as soon as she was delivered, and she stayed in it until her surgery the next morning. They uncovered it long enough to wash her up a bit, and then back in she went. I think it looks more Sacro to me too, but I do seem to remember the initial assessment mentioned Lumbar too. Could it be that the damage went higher internally than externally? You know a lot more about SB than I do, although both of us probably know more than we ever wanted to know!

That's an actual possibility. Those nerves run up and and around that whole spine. I remember meeting a woman who had a child that had problems when born, then they kept finding more wrong as she grew. They checked of course for Spina Bifida. The spine looked normal when they did the imagining, no hole inside or out. Older... imaging...MRI shows a mass in the Lumbar area. Tangled nerves! When I was talking with her, it was at a Spina Bifida clinic. They didn't know what to call her condition. She presented with all the signs of Spina Bifida because the nerves were Tangled and of course messed up. The nerves that if were normal would have been working for her legs, bladder, sensation on skin. BTW, Richard's sac had broken too. I had him naturally though, they said that's why it broke. And wow, she sure was handled a lot better than Richard was back in the 80's. Long story on just how badly he was handled at the hospital he was born at. When he finally made it to the children's hospital, the Nero. there was not happy with whoever had done the initial surgery. He probably suffered more long term damage because of the way things were handled, the Neurologist at the children's hospital had to cut more away once he got hold of him. :(
