Must see movies, old and new. One per post!

Oh gosh, such an intense topic. It could very easily get "hot", but if everyone is respectful it is certainly worth some thought.... The morals involved are questionable at best. My daughter has a genetic eye condition. We were sad but not terribly surprised when she was diagnosed at 5 months, because it runs in the family. But her quality of life is good. (I fear when she gets her driver's license in 7 years!) I wouldn't do anything differently. But I read a story recently where a family who tried for years to have a child lost the child at around 20 weeks gestation, to a condition that is nothing but fatal. The time they spent planning and then carrying and loving....just heartbreaking. Shoes I haven't been in, and would never want to walk in. For someone who had a higher likelihood of passing on a fatal genetic flaw, I can see the value in science in this area, in helping with the whole conception process. I think at some point it will be possible to screen pre-conception, even.

In some ways it is possible to screen preconception... My girlfriend has Salt losing congenital adrenal hyperplasia... Her and her partner have both had their genetic codes run to see if he's a carrier and give an idea of what likelihood they would have of having a child with the same condition... Anyway the chances are pretty good at having a healthy kid that doesn't carry that same genetic "flaw".
It's a pretty interesting topic....
